This painting comes from my personal collection. I've decided to finally part with it. It is an absolutely stunning piece displaying incredible artistry. This oil on board piece was painted by listed Rhode Island artist, R.H. Dowler, son of Charles Parker Dowler. It is signed "R.H. Dowler" at lower right. On verso, there is an appellation, "From Bill, Christmas 1928," which suggests this painting was from the 1920's. When I purchased this painting, I was told this was a Rockport, MA scene. There isn't a ton of information on Dowler, except for his lineage and that he lived in Providence, Rhode Island. He's listed on AskArt and other reputable publications, with a number of auction records.
The painting is in very good condition. There is one area of moderate paint loss, a few small instances of cracquelure and a couple other tiny paint chips. Frame has numerous losses but is sturdy.
Painting measures approx. 10" wide x 7" high. Frame measures 11.5" wide x 8.5" wide.
